This is an original avocado Wurlitzer—an extremely rare color that was only produced in 1976. This keyboard is even more unique than most: the avocado color of this lid is a shade deeper than most, and it has an original gold classroom faceplate. (The vast majority of Wurlitzer faceplates are silver.) To match these warm tones, we have painted the base dark brown.
NOTES ON CONDITION
This keyboard arrived in good condition, and we have done a complete inspection and replaced any parts that were in need of replacing. The electronics were original and unmodified, and the felt was also original. These factors are what we look for in a keyboard, and provide an great foundation for a full restoration. As with all Wurlitzers, the original felt is almost 50 years old, so we replaced the felt with 100% wool, professional piano-grade felt of the exact same specifications, or better.
Notes on cosmetic condition: The lid shows very minimal signs of any damage (it looks wonderful!) and the keys have been buffed to their original color. All of the lid’s striping tape is present. There is some light surface scuffing on the lid consistent with its age, but no cracks or other structural flaws. The key base has been given a coat of dark-brown (almost black) paint (in keeping with the 200A dark taupe matif) and the new pedal has been painted the same color to match the base.

Keys: new bushing felt and key cloth
Key bed: new balance, front rail & back rail felt; wooden supports have been examined for structural integrity; all parts including key frame removed for thorough interior cleaning
Mechanical action: new jack springs and jack felt; all action centers lubricated; capstans polished; action eased and regulated
Reeds: intonation within a <2-cents of equal temperament; bent or weak reeds replaced with new reeds
Electronics: rebuilt amplifier, with new electrolytic capacitors, power-handling and preamp resistors
Speakers: lid-mounted speakers cushioned to eliminate rattle and mechanical noise
We have evaluated this keyboard just as we evaluate all customer keyboards: by disassembling it down to the keybed, and identifying worn-out felt and other parts. (Watch a video on our evaluation process here.) Once those parts are replaced, we regulate the action. With new felt and jack springs, it is possible to dial in regulation the way that Wurlitzer originally intended. The result is a keyboard that is touch-responsive and ready to play, with consistent tone and feel across every key.
