Rhodes Balance Rail Felt Punchings

from $16.00

The balance rail felt punchings are the smaller white felts that sit around your balance rail posts.

If the balance rail felts of your Rhodes electronic piano are missing or damaged, your keyboard’s playability will be diminished. If they have ever soaked up humidity or spills, they might also lend your Rhodes a little mildew aroma.

Updating these felts is a good, routine step to take when servicing your keyboard—especially when leveling your keys. (For fine-tuning your key height and key depth, see our balance and front rail paper shims.)

Balance rail felt thicknesses:

  • Thin: 0.05”

  • Medium: 0.08”

  • Thick: 0.095”

You need this product if:

  • Some or all of your balance and/or rail felts are missing

  • Your keyboard has been played extensively at any point in time, and the felts are old or original

  • Your keyboard has evidence of moisture damage in the keybed

Balance rail felts help the keys play smoothly, and, along with paper shims, they help ensure that all keys are level with one another. Compacted felt will give the keyboard an inconsistent feel and reduced level of playability.

It’s also really common for the balance rail felts to absorb moisture over time—for instance, if your keyboard was ever stored in a humid place (i.e., any shed or garage outside of an actual desert), or if anything was ever spilled in the keybed. Old, dirty, moisture-damaged felt makes your keyboard smell musty.

So, if your Rhodes balance rail felts are original, replacing them will improve your keyboard’s playability (and probably its smell too).
