How to use as a key bushing caul: Sticky keys can be caused by multiple things. Tight key bushings—one cause of sticky keys—are easily solved by compressing the bushings. However, compressing your key bushings when they don’t need it can lead to other problems. This tool allows you to check the width of your key bushings, so you can know definitively whether they are correct or not. If the tool fits too snugly, you can compress your bushing. If the tool fits smoothly, with minimal or no friction, the cause of your sticky key is somewhere else. Knowledge is power with this tool!

How to use when installing key bushing felt: Additionally, this tool is designed for the installation of new bushing felt. After gluing in your new key bushings, use key bushing clamps to hold the felt in place for about thirty minutes. Once the glue is no longer wet, replace each clamp with a key bushing gauge, and let dry for several more hours, or even overnight. If you leave the bushing clamps in for too long, they will over-widen your bushings. However, the gauge gently holds the felt in place without over-widening the bushing, so you can let your glue dry for as long as it takes, without worry.

After installing new bushing felts, key bushing easing pliers are very helpful to compress new key bushings.
