Tropical Fish Satellite 248 speaker cabinet

$485.00

I wish I could say this was an experiment, but we always knew the 4×8” speakers sounded good for guitars as well as keyboards actually. It just hadn’t immediately occurred to us how we could flexibly make use of them.

The Satellite 248 speaker cabinet uses two 4x8” oval speakers with ceramic magnets and paper cones. Their relatively small radiating pattern gives the cabinet a compact sonic character that is punchy and articulate.

More about the Satellite 248

Compared with larger round speakers, the 4×8” ovals emphasize the midrange over deep bass, producing a relatively lean but focused tonal balance. Notes have a clear, articulate attack, accompanied by a subtle papery coloration in the middle frequencies and a mildly chimey quality in the upper register. Although the speakers have a smaller radiating area than conventional 8” drivers, their sound is not necessarily thin or lacking in body, particularly when operated together as a pair.

The Satellite 248’s two speakers are spaced approximately 10 inches apart, considerably closer together than the onboard speakers of a Wurlitzer 200. This compact arrangement helps the pair behave more like a single sound source across a wider range of frequencies.
