This is the felt that comes into contact with the capstan on back of the key. In the 140 series (140, 140A, 140B, 145, 720…) it is glued to the bottom of the whip. It is important that this felt is fresh for good smooth key movement. Overtime, the capstan makes a depression in the felt, and this uneven surface affects smooth key movement. This is sold in a precut set of pieces - enough for one instrument.

This key cushion felt (much like the 200 series) is intended to cushion the contact point between the key and the whip. On the 140 and 720 series keyboards, it is installed with glue on the bottom of the whip.
The action assemblies in the 140 / 720 series have the same amount of weight as the 200, and the same principles of movement, and very similar mechanisms. So much so that they feel almost identical. They both have whips, jacks, jack springs, and the same amount of cushioning. Where they differ is really just where this product comes in. The 140 / 720 have lost motion capstans located on the key and the cushioning felt on the whip (the 200 has lost motion capstans on the whip and the cushioning felt on the key). The cushioning felt is the same and serves the same function. We offer high quality 100% wool key cushioning felt for both actions. The 140 / 720 series key cushion felt is available precut because the whips are identical and always the same size.
To install use the glue you are most comfortable working with (PVC-e, hide, e6000).
